Bill Messinger was born and raised in Milwaukee in a second-generation family business environment. He received his BA from Yale and his JD from the University of Minnesota. He is a Hazelden-trained addiction professional. After completing treatment at Hazelden in 1995, Bill became concerned about the problem of relapse prevention and how to improve recovery rates from substance use disorders. In 1998, Bill learned of the high success rates from addiction for physicians and pilots. Since that time, he has been an advocate for using the same approach for other groups, with a focus on helping families come up with solutions for addressing addiction in loved ones.
